The best bike computers will have buttons that aren’t too fiddly or hard to manipulate while you are riding and those that have a screen that is easily viewable in full sunlight.

They’ll also be easy to set up and will stay on the handle bars of the bike the longest without falling off all the time.

Shoes

A good pair of cycling shoes is also a must. They should be small and light but able to be walked on when the need arises.

Look for shoes with rubber soles to dampen the process of walking and breathable mesh on the top to allow air flow and decrease sweat build-up.

Cleaning kit

Every even half-serious cyclist should have a good cleaning kit that they can use to clean their bike at the end of each ride. We all know that bikes can pick up an incredible amout of road grime and dust and it becomes lodged in every nook and cranny from the spokes to the chain and pedals.

Investing in a good set of brushes is essential and you can easily pick up a good kit for around $20 that will do the job quite nicely.

Power meters

Perhaps one of the most high-end road cycling accessories is the power meter. It is basically a diagnostic device that tracks your pedal stroke and gives advice on how to improve performance and efficiency.

It can track speed, energy expenditure and current and determine if there are any ways that you can enhance your overall riding experience.

They won’t be for everyone however, with some power meters costing in the range of $1300 or more. As a result only the most enthusiastic cyclists or those who race competitively should consider this as a worthwhile purchase.

Now I recently bought one of the best mountain bike under 500 dollars and have fitted it with these accessories. No doubt I am loving every minute  of my biking.

This past Friday, I flipped off not one, but two drivers on my way home from work. Where I live flipping the bird to motorists is not a really common occurance. I learned that little trick when I lived in Chicago.

I moved to Chicago when I was 22 and lived there for about four years. I can remember when I first moved there, I would get upset when people would flip me off. After a while, I could give the finger with the best of them. Unfortunately, when I would visit back home, people didn’t take kindly to getting flipped off. I guess they didn’t realize that in Chicago, you just expect to be flipped off.

What I don’t get is how people can get pissed off at you when you honk and flip them off, when it’s blatantly their fault, and they are doing something so completely stupid. They totally deserve the finger. Unless there is some rule that beat up minivans are allowed to pull out in front of a line of traffic, which is going 60 miles an hour, making us all slam on our brakes, just to drive two feet and make a left hand turn. I must have missed that day in Drivers Ed. Anyways, sometimes you see these morons driving 25m/ph on 45 speed limit, sometimes you’ll get several of them literally blocking all the lanes & creating an insane traffic, it makes you so mad you feel like you are developing some type of psychological disorders sitting in the car yelling insults at these idiots, but the best part of their irritativeness is that they absolutely don’t care, they just keep driving their snail pace.

Anyways, it is what it is I guess, not like they are going to change their ways all of a sudden.

There are, of course a few great uses for an over sized garage.  Many of us like to be able to do some basic (at worst) work on our cars in our garage including oil changes and a few other basic maintenance routines.

Others of us have to do that outside because we’ve built a wine cellar in part of the garage, or at least taken part of it over for a wine refrigerator. Since my wine of the month club sends me two bottles each and every month, I need somewhere to store the wine that is both safe from my kids and a fairly consistent temperature-that means a wine fridge in my garage is pretty much the perfect spot.

If only I could have my wife park on the street so I could have some more space!

Good News!  Although I’m a big fan of sports cars and that’s where my true passion lies, I’m also a bit of a finance geek.  Why is this good news?  Because with the help of an amortization calculator I was able to purchase a new home with a four(!) car garage to park my sweet rides in.  This just goes to show that doing a bit of due diligence when it comes to finding a new home can be a real virtue as my patience is what lead to me finding this beautiful new home that was just within my price range.  Now all of my cars can stay indoors and out of the elements and I can stare at the beautiful new abode as I get home from work every day.  People have been calling me a car geek for years – I guess they can start calling me a house geek now too.  IF you ever want to chat about adjustable rate mortgages, loan amortization or variable public tax liens then just let me know!

When most people think of ‘gorilla vehicles’, they think of the raw horsepower and speed of a muscle car.  However, there is more than one type of gorilla roaming the roads.  Trucks have plenty of power, but are a lot more similar to a lumbering gorilla than is a sleek and stylish corvette.

One great truck with plenty of power is the 2012 Dodge Ram 3500. This beefy truck can be had with a powerful NOx type diesel engine that delivers immense towing capacity.  For those who don’t want to tow an RV or boat with all the luxuries, this vehicle is big enough that you can easily install a great car refrigerator like an Engel if you enclose the bed.  Upgrade to a bigger alternator and you can add even more accessories to the vehicle.

While not known for their off-road attributes, these powerful dodges make great workhorses around town or even on the farm.  Many city utility companies find their diesel inspired high torque perfect for heavy-duty construction tasks.  800lb-ft of torque and 350 horsepower is not to be sneezed at.

Another great feature of a big Dodge Ram is their safety.  If a large truck like this were to be involved in a collision with a compact car, I have no doubt as to which vehicle I’d rather be a passenger in!

Probably the biggest drawback of a truck like this is its mileage.  Like a gorilla, moving this beast around requires a lot of energy.  While for big trucks like the 3500 mpg is not advertised, users report getting around 14mpg with the diesel engine. This is not great, but all that bad when you consider just how big the vehicle is.

Next time you are out looking for a powerful new vehicle to grace the driveway of your business or your home, look beyond the traditional muscle cars and consider a large truck from Dodge, Ford or GM.
